The “Hortus Gear 600W” is a modern ballast that can operate both 600 watt high-pressure sodium lamps and metal halide lamps. Its compact design allows the ballast to be installed in the grow area without taking up much space. As well as using the available mains voltage very efficiently to switch the lamps on and off perfectly, this ballast also prevents annoying loud noises and the typical humming of the lamps. It regulates the lamps and maximises the light output they produce. Because the lamps are switched on and off much more gently, their life expectancy increases by up to 50%, so they can be used more often. In the event of voltage drops or spikes, this ballast also briefly disconnects the lamps from the mains, preventing damage to the lamps.
